Shopping

The city centre of Lausanne presents itself like a giant shopping centre, which allows you to combine a walk and shopping. You pass by many boutiques, from the chic ((Centre Bon Génie, rue de Bourg) to the more popular (Place de la Palud, rue de l'Alle, Rue de Chaudron), without forgetting to stop for a small treat along the way. For example, a traditional hot chocolate (Café de l’Hôtel de Ville) or a home-made ice-cream, curry, thyme, litchi or rasberry-flavoured (etc.), from the tiny, yet nonetheless fabulous ice-cream parlour of the Rue de la Borde.

Don’t miss…

For an indulgent chocolate treat, a stop at Blondel (rue de Bourg 27) is a must : large bars of chocolate, with figs, ginger, pistachio nuts, ordered by weight, truffles of all sorts and always succulent, slabs with 90% cocoa, etc. etc. A delight.

If you want to be original, the two Lausanne stylists of the boutique Laboratoire (www.le-laboratoire.com) propose colourful and conceptual clothes, which are unique items or are produced with very few copies.

Markets

The market takes over the city centre from the Rue de l’Alle to the Rue de Bourg, passing by the Place de la Palud every Wednesday and Saturday morning. The artisans’ market takes place every last Friday of the month on the Place de la Palud.
